Tips on Finding a Part-Time or Summer Job

When looking for a part-time or summer job, you need a plan of action.  Here are some tips for you to use:

1.    Check with Student Employment at TSTC for an on campus job.
2.    Think about where you want to apply and consider the location, the hours and the pay.
3.    Consider your skills that you can bring to an employer.  What do you have to offer an employer?
4.    Develop a resume.  You will put forth a very professional image if you present a resume to potential employers.
5.    Talk with your parents, friends, instructors, etc. and ask them if they have any contacts. Networking gives you the highest chance to find a job.
6.    Read the newspaper and surf the Web. Take action, be sure to have at least three references for your applications.
7.    Go for the interview.  Be ready to answer interview questions and dress conservatively.

           Local stores
           Small businesses
           Corporate offices
           Malls
           Grocery Stores
           Fast food restaurants
           Local government summer job programs

Employers want motivated people who are going to arrive to work on time, have a positive attitude, work hard, work well with others and show leadership qualities.
