    Principles and techniques of written composition, textual analysis, and critical thinking. Students study the process of composing essays, including prewriting techniques, drafting, revising, and editing. Several multi-paragraph essays of various types in both in-class and out-of-class settings are required. Sample student and professional essays are critically analyzed. Prerequisite: Required TASP/placement test scores.

    Principles and techniques of written composition, textual analysis, and critical thinking. Students write definition and persuasive essays, learn the process and techniques of research, and produce a fully-documented research paper. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301.  
     
ENGL 2311 Technical and Business Writing  [2311015135]

    Principles, techniques, and skills needed for college-level scientific, technical, or business writing. Various document types will be produced, including summaries, correspondence, proposals, and analytical reports. Students will also do an oral presentation related to their final project. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301.  
     
ENGL 2341 Forms of Literature [2303015112]

    Study of one or more literary genres including, but not limited to, poetry, fiction, drama, and film. Course work includes writing essays and presenting papers. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301.

    A survey of selected significant works of American Literature. May include study of movements, schools, or periods. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301.

    Methods and techniques of public speaking with an emphasis on research, organization, composition, and delivery of speeches for various purposes and occasions. Focusing on awareness of audience needs and background, students deliver several informative and persuasive extemporaneous and impromptu speeches. ENGL 1301 is a recommended prerequisite.
