Career Outlook
 
Roles & Responsibilities:
As a graduate of the program, you may qualify for positions with titles such as powerplant technician, airframe technician, repairman, sheet metal/structures worker, electrical installer, line mechanic, inspector or quality control technician.
 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • Read and interpret technical data;
  • Interpret aircraft blueprints and schematics;
  • Work well as team members;
  • Communicate clearly and courteously with customers;
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic; and
  • Follow written instructions.

Graduates may work on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and instrumentation systems. These systems require the analysis and diagnosis of technical problems, which involve independent and accurate decisions.

 
Industry Standards:
Upon completing the Aviation Maintenance Technology program, graduates are may receive permission to take the A&P tests.
 
Other Certifications Graduates May Earn:
Graduates who are certified A&P technicians for three years who have worked in the field for the previous two years can apply for their Inspection Authorization Rating.

This rating can allow technicians to perform and sign off on annual aircraft inspections and assume various other responsibilities. This increased capability can also translate into increased earnings.
