College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) is the most widely used credit-by-examination program today with more than 2,900 accredited colleges and universities that award credit for satisfactory scores on CLEP exams.
CLEP gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of 34 examinations. Earn credit for knowledge you’ve acquired through independent study, prior course work, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships.
Please Note: Testing Center staff may only provide general information regarding CLEP tests and administer the tests. CLEP credits will not be awarded for any courses in which a student is currently enrolled, has been previously enrolled, and/or earned a grade, or has previously failed. Note: There is a 6-month waiting period to retest.
TESTING APPOINTMENTS
You must make your testing appointment for CLEP tests in person at the Center for Assessment.
TESTING FEES ($92 total)
$15 (paid to TSTC) is due upon registration. This fee is valid for 30 days and is non-refundable. $77 (paid to CLEP) is due on the test date. Acceptable forms of payment are personal check, money order, or credit card (American Express, Discover, Master Card and Visa only). Cash or other credit cards are NOT accepted by CLEP.
PREPARING FOR THE CLEP
CLEP examinations test knowledge that you have acquired outside of a college classroom. Most candidates study on their own for the exams. You should determine if a quick review of the material provides you with sufficient preparation, or if you need to develop a full study plan. RECEIVING CREDIT
If you would like to receive credit at TSTC for your passed CLEP exam, a Center for Assessment Staff member will complete the Credit by Exam Authorization form. You will take it to Enrollment Services for processing.
Note: A Credit by Exam Fee may be charged for the granting of course credit based on the number of semester credit hours for which the student is testing.
SCORE REPORTING
You will receive an unofficial score report immediately following your testing session. Your official test scores will be sent (usually within two weeks) from CLEP to the institution you designate to receive your official scores.
