Roles & Responsibilities:
Today's automotive technicians enjoy excellent careers. With thousands of job openings, the automotive repair field offers virtually unlimited positions, salaries and growth potential. Automotive Technology graduates qualify for positions such as automotive service technician, service adviser, service consultant, auto parts specialist, parts sales or service manager.
 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • follow directions;
  • analyze and diagnose problems;
  • display professional work ethics and practices ;
  • repair vehicles properly the first time;
  • work well with others;
  • maintain an orderly work area; and
  • practice safety.

Graduates must apply in-depth diagnostic and problem-solving skills as they make general and specialized mechanical repairs.

 
Industry Standards:
Upon completing the AUT program, graduates may apply for various types of professional certification offered by organizations such as the ASE and ATRA. Many dealerships and companies will only hire individuals who hold these certifications.
