Job Placement

Salaries & Advancement:
Through 2016, the U.S. government projects the need for some 242,000 computer support specialists. In fact, this career is listed as one of the top 50 in-demand occupations at Careervoyages.gov. Salary potential, accordingly, is excellent. While beginners may start out lower, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that average annual wages as of May 2008 were $46,370. And career positions are available wherever there is a need for computers, and these days, that's everywhere.

Technicians in Demand:

CMT graduates find career opportunities in small towns, metropolitan areas and everywhere in between. Anywhere you can find computers, you'll find the need for skilled computer maintenance technicians. In addition to salary data, the BLS reports the expectation that employment of computing professionals will increase “much faster than average as technology becomes more sophisticated and organizations continue to adopt and integrate these technologies.”

The Technical Advantage:

Computer Maintenance Technology students at TSTC use many types of equipment and software to gain the competitive edge. These include:

  • Diagnostic software;
  • Electronic test equipment including digital multi-meters;
  • Oscilloscopes, cable scanners, memory testers; and

Professional Associations:
Students are exposed to top industry professionals, like those in organizations such as the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM); the IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers) Computer Society; USENIX, the Advanced Computing Systems Association; and CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association.
