Salaries & Advancement:
Salaries can vary widely, depending on location. Graduates of the Computer Networking & Systems Administration program earn starting salaries ranging from $25,000 to $45,000 per year.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data indicates computer systems analysts' annual earnings ranging from a median of more than $52,000 to more than $87,800 in 1998. According to Robert Half International, a world leader in specialized staffing services, starting salaries in 1999 ranged from $42,800 to $59,800 for network administrators and from $27,000 to $46,000 for help-desk support staff.

Computer Networking & Systems Administration students use many types of equipment and software to gain the competitive edge. To ensure graduates skills are applicable, we teach using the systems currently in demand by leading Texas industries. These systems include:
  • Work station-class and server-class PC hardware;
  • Client-side operating systems like Windows 2000, XP, and Linux;
  • Network operating systems such as Windows 2003 Server, Novell NetWare 6.5, current Linux releases and Sun Solaris 9x & 10x;
  • Current Cisco Internetworking operating systems as well as Cisco and 3Com Routers and Switches;
  • Applications like Microsoft Office 2003, SQL Server, IIS, Exchange; and more!

Students in the CNS program have many opportunities to network with established industry professionals. In addition to making contacts through the program's Advisory Committee, CNS students can poarticipate in organizations such as the student chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) and Skills USA-VICA.
