What is Cooperative Education?
Cooperative education at Texas State Technical College Waco is an exciting opportunity for you to gain experience and college credit while working at a real job in your technology. It is a joint effort between students, the college, and industry. You will receive credit for a semester of on-the-job training upon satisfactory completion of all requirements. Your employment must be in a field related to your technology.
These are the steps you must complete to receive college credit. The forms you need are attached.
Step One: Make certain that you are registered for the class and that your bill is paid.
Step Two: Submit your “Cooperative Training Plan” within the first week of the semester. Note: (1) Give the employing firm’s complete street address including city, zip code, and phone number. (2) Be sure your Training Supervisor and you sign at the bottom of the form.
Step Three: If you are required to do so by your department, purchase “The Work Book, Getting the Job You Want” at the bookstore before leaving for co-op.
Step Four: Every two weeks, submit a bi-weekly report about your training.
Step Five: Submit a Final Co-Op Training Report of your job assignment. Please follow the outline at the end of this booklet. This report plus the bi-weekly report cards will constitute 25 percent of your final grade.
Step Six: Employer Appraisal Forms will be collected by the instructor for each student. Out-of-state students must submit these forms themselves in the 8th and the 14th week on the job.
NOTE: If your Supervisor says that he or she will sign and return the “Cooperative Training Plan” for you, it is your responsibility to follow up to make sure it is returned IMMEDIATELY!
