Roles & Responsibilities:
Outdoor Power Equipment Specialization graduates' responsibilities may include diagnosing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining air-cooled or diesel engines, single- and multiple-cylinder engines, 4-stroke and 2-stroke cycle engines and the equipment that these engines support.

Graduate titles may include service technician, diesel engine technician, outdoor power equipment technician, hydraulic technician, or electrical/electronic technician.

 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • Communicate well with others;
  • Continue to gain knowledge and skills;
  • Work efficiently alone or in team settings; and
  • Diagnose, repair and maintain 4-stroke and 2-stroke cycle engines, air-cooled and diesel engines, power trains, brakes, HVAC systems, hydraulics and hydrostatic systems, electrical and computerized controlled systems and power-generation, golf course, landscape and personal-use equipment.
Industry Standards:
In addition to holding a degree or certificate from TSTC, graduates can gain credibility in with industry certifications. Graduate can go on to build skills as a Certified Master Technician and Certified Technician from the ADS; Master Technician and Certified Technician from the ASE; Master Technician and Certified Technician through OPE; and Master Service Technician through Briggs & Stratton Corp.
