Heavy Truck Specialization

... A specialization in Diesel Equipment Technology

Without an efficient system to transport goods and services, the U.S. economy would grind to a halt. While our transportation system gives us a higher quality of life and makes possible the modern systems of manufacturing and commerce, today's heavy trucks are becoming increasingly complicated. These days, diesel equipment is allied with high-tech computers, offering increasingly complex fuel-injection systems and electronic transmissions.

To keep the economy moving forward, Texas must have skilled technicians to repair and maintain today's technologically advanced heavy trucks. Texas State Technical College offers the Diesel Equipment Technology (DET) program to provide job-oriented instruction on the latest industry-standard equipment in its Heavy Truck Specialization. The DET program also offers specializations in Agriculture Equipment, Construction Equipment, Outdoor Power Equipment , John Deere Construction & Forestry and Caterpillar Dealer Prep Program.

The Diesel Equipment Technology program is unique from other two-year programs because of the industry contacts and training equipment. Our faculty members work closely with related diesel industries to develop curriculum that meets workforce demands. TSTC also provides training and experience on the latest equipment available including Isuzu, Hino and Volvo medium and heavy trucks; and Freightliner and Peterbilt trucks and tractors.

TSTC's Heavy Truck Specialization is one of only two Texas programs certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation Inc. (NATEF) and the instructors are certified by the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). These certifications assure students that TSTC's instruction, facilities and equipment meet strict standards of excellence.
