Outdoor Power Certificate

... A specialization in Diesel Equipment Technology

The industry that provides equipment for everything from golf course development and commercial construction to home lawn care and landscaping is the Outdoor Power Equipment Industry or OPEI. Outdoor power equipment encompasses a wide range of machinery including large and small, hand-held, walk-behind and riding units. Maintaining and repairing these units require knowledgeable and skilled technicians.

The Outdoor Power Equipment Specialization, offered by TSTC's Diesel Equipment Technology (DET), offers the intense, hands-on technical training needed to repair and maintain today's complex outdoor power equipment ... the machinery Americans increasingly rely on for beautiful landscapes, yards, golf courses and specialized projects around the home or at the job site. The DET program at TSTC provides the diesel and air-cooled equipment training that can lead to exceptional career opportunities and outstanding financial rewards in industry.

The DET program is unique from other two-year diesel programs because of its industry contacts and training equipment. Diesel Equipment Technology faculty members work closely with the related diesel, outdoor power equipment, golf and landscaping industries and engine manufacturers to develop curriculums that meet the workforce demands. TSTC also provides training and experience on the latest equipment available. In addition, the Diesel Equipment Technology program offers the only college in Texas and one of only 14 colleges in the nation accredited by the Engine and Equipment Training Council, or EETC.
