Individuals entering this field earn average starting salaries ranging from $24,000 to $26,000 a year. Graduates may eventually attain positions as graphic artists, programmers, production managers, creative directors, producers, and marketing designers. The field centers on rapidly developing technology. Therefore, graduates can expect a dynamic marketplace from the time they enter the workforce. Technicians in Demand:
DMD graduates may expect employment opportunities with a wide variety of companies using multimedia as a tool. The largest concentration of jobs are in urban areas, especially on the east and west coasts. Graduates may find jobs in cities such as Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

 

The Technical Advantage:
Members of the computer animation industry use authoring systems animation and graphics software, image manipulation software, and audio/video editing software. Equipment, software, and programming languages DMD students' work with include:
  • Traditional photography equipment;
  • Digital cameras; video cameras;
  • CD burners;
  • Presentation systems;
  • Digital scanners;
  • Digital video/audio editing software and equipment;
  • DVD authoring software and systems;
  • 2-D and 3-d animation software;
  • Image manipulation and graphic design software;
  • Authoring programming software and hypertext markup language (html).
