Roles & Responsibilities:

Graduates of the Environmental Compliance Technician program may hold positions such as environmental compliance manager, sampling technician, air monitoring technician, hazardous waste manager, state compliance regulator, safety director or hazardous materials technician.

Graduate job responsibilities may include: air, water and soil sampling; developing and implementing hazardous material storage and shipment plans; environmental compliance; emergency response; developing and implementing safety plans; and conducting employee training programs.

 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • Facilitate EPA and OSHA compliance;
  • Train employees in compliance standards;
  • Use sampling equipment and techniques;
  • Respond to hazardous material and waste emergencies;
  • Design a compliance plan for transporting and storing hazardous materials;
  • Develop and implement environmental and safety programs; and
  • Implement DOT regulations.
Industry Standards:
Graduates are eligible to apply for Hazardous Wastesite Operators (HAZWOPER) certification from the EPA, Lead Inspector certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and Emergency Responder certification from the EPA. These certifications can provide valuable assistance in attaining environmental compliance positions throughout the United States.
