Roles & Responsibilities:
As an Electronics Technology graduate, you can look forward to exceptional career options. Graduates often specialize as engineering technicians or equipment installers and repairers.

Electrical and electronics engineering technicians work closely with engineers and scientists, particularly in research and development. These technicians perform inspections, conduct tests and collect data in quality control, or assist in product design, development and production in manufacturing.

Repairers and installers use software programs, specialized testing equipment and tools to pinpoint and diagnose electronic equipment malfunctions, repair components and circuit defects. Electronics equipment installers and repairers also provide expertise in selecting and installing sensitive and sophisticated products such as semiconductors and computers, electronic controls, robots, sensors and other equipment.

 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • Understand and apply science and math concepts;
  • Comprehend and use electrical and electronic formulas and theories;
  • Skillfully install, test, analyze and repair equipment;
  • Perform with minimal supervision; and
  • Quickly grasp new information.
Industry Standards:
TSTC graduates can gain credibility and earnings with industry certifications, such as those administered by NICET, the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians – ISCET – and the Electronics Technicians Association – ETA.

Texas State Technical College Waco conferred more associate's degrees than any Texas public college in engineering-related technologies/technicians.

In addition, TSTC Waco is also the No. 1 Texas college in awarding communication & information sciences associate's degrees. (Based on U.S. Department of Labor data as reported in the June 27, 2004 issue of “Community College Week.”) Graduates will earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree from TSTC Waco.
