Electrical Systems Technology
... A specialization of Electrical Power & Control
Consumer, business, and industry use of electrical power in the U.S. is now more than three trillion kilowatt-hours per year, which constantly pressures electrical power utilities to develop improved, efficient electrical power delivery. As the electric utility industry continues to evolve, so does the need for skilled, knowledgeable electrical systems technicians.
The Electrical Systems program at TSTC Waco offers instruction in several highly lucrative specializations, including engineering and design, installation and calibration, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting, computer instrumentation and robotic interfacing and electrical construction.
Through intensive classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory work, students gain a solid foundation in basic electrical concepts, motors and control applications, and then advance to electronics, measurement and calibration, electrical codes and automated control systems. Graduates are equipped for employment with extensive classroom and lab experience with AC and DC motors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), speed drive systems, computer software packages for engineering, designing and drafting. One of our laboratories, partially funded with a grant from the National Science Foundation, provides in-depth study of microprocessor-related data transfer and automatic control, with special emphasis on Distributed Process Control and Discrete Component Manufacturing.
The Electrical Systems Specialization program at TSTC is the only two-year associate degree program in Texas specifically focused on the many aspects of electrical power technology.
Through its many articulation agreements with two- and four-year colleges, EPC makes transferring coursework both in and out of TSTC easier. Check with the EPC department for more details about articulation.
