Salaries & Advancement:
Graduates earn starting salaries ranging from $29,000 to $38,000 a year. With experience, EPC graduates can look forward to lucrative salaries and outstanding benefits, ranging from retirement plans and specialized clothing and tools to education reimbursement.
 
The Technical Advantage:
Electrical Systems students use many types of equipment to gain the competitive edge. These include:
  • Ground fault test equipment;
  • Programmable logic controllers;
  • Transformer analysis test equipment;
  • Variable frequency drives; and
  • Computer-aided Design programs.
Technicians in Demand:

Electrical Systems graduates can look toward numerous career opportunities working for electrical utilities, industrial plants, engineering firms and electrical manufacturing companies. Successful graduates can also go into electrical contracting. Career opportunities exist throughout Texas and the United States.

In addition to the metropolitan areas such as Austin, Dallas, El Paso and Houston, and the Gulf Coast's Corpus Christi and Freeport areas, graduates may find jobs in smaller towns such as Bremond, Clifton, Diboll, Eldorado, Gainesville, Gonzales, Midland, Nursery and Seguin.

 
Professional Associations:
Electrical Systems students can network with established professionals through the department's industry partners and Advisory Committee members. In addition, graduates can gain credibility with industry credentials. For example, designations offered through NETA and ANSI can lead to more career opportunities and advancement. The National Electrical Testing Association administers and monitors American National Standards Institute testing and certification.
