Most graduates begin their careers as assistants to experienced linemen,
installing electrical wiring in new construction and servicing wiring in
existing structures. After an initial training period, a graduate can
advance to the full position of journeyman lineman, with the opportunity to
work nearly anywhere in the world and receive top pay, too.
Other tasks of the trade include setting towers and
poles; installing and maintaining insulators, transformers and other
equipment; identifying defective devices such as fuses, switches and wires;
inspecting and testing powerlines; and many others.
