Roles & Responsibilities:
Graduates of the Diesel Equipment Technology Heavy Truck program may have job responsibilities that include diagnosing, inspecting, repairing and servicing a wide range of medium and heavy truck equipment.

Graduates of the Heavy Truck program hold positions as medium/heavy truck service technicians, diesel engine technicians, power train technicians, electrical/electronic technicians, brake technicians and tune-up technicians.

 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • Communicate well with others;
  • Continue to build skills and knowledge;
  • Work efficiently alone or in team settings; and
  • Diagnose and repair problems with engines, power trains, brakes, air-conditioning systems, hydraulics, electrical and electronic equipment, harvesting and tillage equipment, spray machinery and other farm- and ranch-related power equipment.
Industry Standards:
In addition to holding a degree or certificate from TSTC, graduates can gain credibility with industry certifications. Graduates can go on to build skills as a Certified Master Technician and Certified Technician from the ADS; Master Technician and Certified Technician from the ASE; Master Technician and Certified Technician through OPE; and Master Service Technician through Briggs & Stratton Corp.
