Salaries & Advancement:

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2004-05 Edition, median annual earnings of surveying and mapping technicians were $29,230 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $22,640 and $39,070 in 2002.

 
Technicians in Demand:
Employment of surveying and mapping technicians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2012. Metropolitan areas such as Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, and Las Vegas, as well as rural areas, can offer career opportunities.

  • Electronic distance measuring, angle turning, and note keeping devices

Students in the Land/Civil Surveying Specialization at TSTC can network with established industry professionals through program advisory committees. Groups including the National Society of Professional Surveyors, a member organization of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, and the Imaging and Geospatial Information Society offer more networking opportunities.
