Salaries & Advancement:

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2004-05 Edition, median annual earnings of surveying and mapping technicians were $29,230 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $22,640 and $39,070 in 2002.

Technicians in Demand:

Employment of surveying and mapping technicians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2012. GIS program graduates may find employment opportunities in locations such as Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta or Las Vegas. Companies abroad also use GPS/GIS specialists.
