Roles & Responsibilities:
Licensed plumbers and pipefitters have a choice of workplaces, such as new housing sites, or less obvious locations like ships and oil rigs. Plumbers and pipefitters work in the businesses ranging from single-family houses to more complex hospitals, factories and schools.

Plumbing & Pipefitting Specialization graduates may join organizations that specialize in domestic, industrial or commercial work, in shops and factories. Other companies may offer a broader range of services. Plumbers can work in several houses each day or remain on a larger commercial or industrial site for several months at a time.

 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • Plan jobs;
  • Know how systems and components operate;
  • Understand technical drawings and instructions;
  • Follow detailed instructions;
  • Carry out accurate measurements;
  • Effectively use tools and equipment; and
  • Work with their minds as well as their hands to solve problems and grow with the industry.
 
Industry Standards:
In addition to holding a certificate from TSTC, you can build credibility in the job market with professional certifications. The State of Texas has developed these new levels of licenses in the plumbing field:
  • Journeyman Plumber 8,000 hours
  • Tradesman Plumber 4,000 hours
  • Residential Utilities Installer 2,000 hours
