Roles & Responsibilities:
Plastics Technology graduates have an array of responsibilities, often setting up and monitoring production on a variety of plastic processing equipment, with an emphasis on injection molding. Position titles include plastics technician, process technician, injection process technician, quality assurance specialist or polymer research and development technician.
 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • Work well alone and as a member of a team;
  • Understand and utilize product specifications;
  • Maximize the productivity of machines;
  • Troubleshoot plastic processing methods; and
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of both engineering- and commodity-grade resins; and
  • Learn new skills and concepts on their own.
Industry Standards:

TSTC has conferred more associate degrees than any public two-year college in the nation in the Engineering-related Technologies/Technicians category and in the state of Texas in Communication and Information Sciences and Support Services category, according to June 2009 edition of "Community College Week" magazine.

In addition to holding a degree from TSTC, graduates can gain credibility by attaining industry certifications. In addition to National Certification in Plastics, plastics professionals can earn SPI Certified Plastics Technician credentials.
