Salaries & Advancement:
Graduates of the Plastics Technology program can look forward to excellent career opportunities. Starting salaries range from $25,000 to $30,000 per year and up. Examples of starting salaries for plastics positions found on the Internet include $36,000 to $41,000 for QA specialists; and $20 an hour plus overtime for extrusion operators.

Many companies also offer sign-on bonuses and full relocation allowances. With experience, graduates can advance to positions as injection mold or production supervisors, or QA managers. Salaries can easily reach $50,000 and higher.

 
The Technical Advantage:
Plastics Technology students use many types of equipment and software to gain the competitive edge. These include:
  • Injection molding machines;
  • Polymer material testing equipment;
  • IDEAS Master Series Engineering Design software;
  • Coordinate Measuring Machines; and
  • Composite processing materials.
Technicians in Demand:
Plastics Technology Specialization graduates can look forward to employment opportunities throughout Texas and the nation. Rural, urban and metropolitan areas offer an array of top-notch companies seeking skilled plastics technicians.
 
Professional Associations:
MET students are exposed to established professionals through the program's industry partners and advisory committees. Professional organizations such as the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) and the Society of Plastics Engineers offer additional networking opportunities. For example, the Society of the Plastics Industry also grants scholarships of up to $1,000 a year, through its Molder Scholarship Foundation.
