Salaries & Advancement:
Salaries can vary widely, depending on location. Graduates of the Network Security Technology program can earn starting salaries ranging from $25,000 to $40,000 per year. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data indicate network security technicians, with experience, can earn an average wage of $50,000 per year. With experience, graduates can earn higher salaries by advancing to positions as network security administrators or members/managers of computer security incident response teams. Graduates can also increase earnings and mobility by moving into research and development, management or administrative positions.
 
Technicians in Demand:
Network Security Technology graduates may expect worldwide opportunities to exercise their expertise in securing network systems from sabotage. The BLS reports the expectation that employment of computing professional will increase much faster than average. Career opportunities exist in small towns, metropolitan areas and everywhere in between. Every organization, company, government agency and business that relies on a computer network for data storage and information management must address network security. Some of the areas that graduates from NST have the skills to obtain employment as are:
  • Network Security Administrators
  • Network Security Consultants
  • Security Analysts
  • Network Penetration Testers
  • IT Emergency Response members

Students in the NST program can look forward to many opportunities to network with established industry professionals, such as members of the advisory committee. Members include representatives with the United States Secret Service, Texas Department of Public Safety, Waco Police Department, L-3 Communications, Dell and Airscanner.
