(WACO )—Mike Denn, Texas State Technical College Waco Network Security Technology department chair, has added to his personal credentials and enhanced the status of the NST instructional effort by gaining his Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification. He took a major step toward becoming certified by recently passing the six-hour CISSP examination in Dallas.
After gaining CISSP certification, information security officials are armed with an objective measure of competence and a globally-recognized standard of achievement.
“This is one of the most cherished certifications for computer security,” said Denn. “It (the achievement) gives more validity to our Network Security program here at TSTC.” As for the rigorous testing procedure, Denn said, “it's fairly subjective because it covers all 10 domains of computer security and there is a large body of information you have to become familiar with.”
To acquire the CISSP, a candidate must have a college degree, at least three years of experience in one of the 10 security domains and have an endorsement from an upper-level college administrator. Denn, who has his Bachelor of Science Degree from East Texas State University, received his endorsement from John Spradling, TSTC Vice President for Student Learning.
“Mike's certification ensures that graduates will have been trained by certified personnel. It's a three-way win, for the students, Mike and the school,” said Spradling.
NST at TSTC provides an in-depth understanding of computer networking and other skills necessary for protecting data in computer networks. Today hackers attempt to invade those networks where companies store billions of dollars worth of valuable information. |
