Frequently Asked Questions

Is Orientation mandatory?
Orientation is essential for all incoming students. Students will learn about TSTC, classes and so much more. It is an opportunity to explore academics, campus life and begin developing important relationships with faculty, staff and students. There are also opportunities to have all of your questions answered. Make-up sessions will also be offered in the month of August.

Where do I go when I arrive on campus?
You will receive a postcard with that information, after you register

What should I wear for Orientation?
Plan to wear casual clothes. Dress comfortably for walking around campus.

How much money do I need to bring for meals when I come to Orientation?

Dinner on Sunday night and lunch on Monday will be provided. You will want to bring money for any other items or meals.. The TSTC Tornado Café will be open for breakfast starting at 7:30am.

Who can come to Orientation with their students?
Parents/Spouse and children/siblings are welcome to attend the orientation sessions.

Where can I stay during Orientation?

If you would like to get the true TSTC college experience and stay on campus overnight, you can! Village Oaks, an on-campus apartment complex has rooms available for $20 per person, per night on the Sunday evening before orientation. Call today to reserve your space, (254) 799-5885. Also, visit the Web site for a list of items you will want to bring along for your stay.

Will I need to buy books at Orientation?
Some students choose to purchase books during Orientation to prepare in advance for courses. (The bookstore is normally open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Most students will purchase their books during the first week of classes after instructors hand out course syllabi. Waiting until the first week is recommended, in case an instructor changes book requirements.

Will I meet current TSTC students during Orientation?
YES! Current TSTC students who serve in the Student Ambassador Alliance and other student organizations will be assisting throughout the Orientation program. This will be a great opportunity for you to have your questions answered by students themselves!

Do I need to register for classes before attending Orientation?
No, you do not need to register and sign up for classes before you attend Orientation. But you MUST take the Accuplacer Placement Exam prior to registering for your orientation session. Contact the Advising, Retention & Testing Center for more information at (254) 867-3609.

You will have time to register for classes during Orientation. Also, Fall registration is open for new students through Thursday, August 27th. Scheduling changes can be made the first week of school.

How, when and where do I register for fall classes?
After you complete the Admissions checklist, http://www.waco.tstc.edu/admissions/checklist.php, you will need to register at the department you are majoring in. Your advisor will meet with you and help you with your schedule.

Where can I get a copy of my class schedule?
You will receive a printout of your class schedule when you register. At Orientation, you can access your schedule at any time via WebAdvisor.

How do I change my technology?
Your academic advisor or someone in your current department can officially change your technology for you any time during the semester. Set up an appointment with your advisor to discuss and make the changes.

How do I transfer college school credit?
You may either mail or hand deliver an official, sealed transcript from the college or university you attended. Transcripts should be sent to the Office of Admission, 3801 Campus Drive, Waco, Texas 76705, located in the Student Services Center.

Where and when can I get my TechOne ID card?
Students will have the opportunity to get their TechOne ID picture taken during Orientation. TechOne ID is made in the Recruiting Office in the Student Services Center. Your account must show paid to take your TechOne ID photo. If you are receiving Financial Aid, it must fund to your account before you can get your photo taken.

Where can I get my parking decal?
The student will go to the Cashier's window in the Student Services Center with the license plate number, driver's license number and description of vehicle to get the decal. The parking cost is included in the tuition and fees, if paid. Otherwise, the cost is $10 and must be paid at that time.

What technology resources are available on campus?
 The Campus Help Desk (CHD) for students is dedicated to providing computer-related service and technical support to the students of TSTC. CHD for students is staffed by student workers who are the primary contact and support for assisting you with the following areas:

  • Internet Access, if you live in the apartments or dorms on campus
  • Wired Internet service is available for Village Oaks and Lavaca Hall. Free wireless is available to the Red River Apartments (wireless limitations apply).
  • Minor PC troubleshooting and virus/spyware removal
  • MyTSTC Portal/Web Advisor/E-mail password management and login assistance
