TSTC Advantage

Graphic Design AdvantageIn today’s busy world, we are inundated with advertisements from television, newspapers, magazines, radio, billboards and even the Internet.

For graphic designers, artists, photographers and desktop publishers, creating a message that breaks through the clutter is key, no matter what you design. The graphic artist must blend the gift of creativity with technical skills to produce messages that sizzle – and ones that people can remember.

That’s where TSTC’s advantage comes in. Creativity by itself is great, but learning the latest tricks of the trade, how to present your products and what to do with them are must-have skills to break into the industry.

At Texas State Technical College, you’ll learn all that and more.

Our degree in Visiual Communication & Design complements your creative side by giving you the practical skills you need to fully engage your unique talent.

What you’ll do!

  • Design a variety of messages from concept to creation that capture attention.

  • Develop a professional portfolio to attract prospective employers.

  • Master your craft in a variety of mediums.

  • Utilize the latest software used by professionals in the field.

TSTC’s star power prep

  • Projects that help you build a professional portfolio to show prospective employers.

  • Experienced staff with industry training guided by an advisory board comprised of field experts.

Students say...
“I learned a lot from my instructors and also from my classmates. The program gave me a competitive edge in graphic design, but also inspired me to learn a lot more. I’m always going to have a job in this field. TSTC taught me how to be productive and creative on deadlines, and that is a skill employers look for.” – Jose Sandoval

TSTC Job Credibility

In addition to holding a degree from TSTC, graduates can boost skills and job credibility by creating a professional portfolio, which shows off the diversity of their talent.

Small class size

At TSTC, our Visual Communication & Design classes average 20 students per class to ensure instructors have plenty of time to work with each one individually.

Hands-on learning

Compared to other colleges, TSTC students spend a lot less time in the classroom and much more time in work settings, operating the instruments they will use in their respective fields. Visual Communication & Design students spend approximately 27 to 30 hours a week in the computer lab, compared to other colleges, where students spend only 15 to 20 hours a week. It’s just one of the many ways TSTC ensures you get the depth of instruction you need to succeed in your advertising design career.

Advisory committee

TSTC’s strong programs match industry needs, making it easier for graduates to obtain jobs when the time comes to move out into the workforce.

Education by employer design!  As industry professionals, our 900-plus advisory committees assist the college in determining the courses you study, providing a valuable advantage. They  ensure that what we teach matches what industry is seeking.
