Job Placement

Photo of male Advertising Design & Print working in design lab. There are compelling reasons employers are attracted to TSTC graduates:

  • More than 60 percent of your class time is spent on actual hands-on work in lab settings.

  • Your internship opportunities in actual working environments provide on-the-job experience that is valued in the industry.

The Advertising & Design field is highly flexible, with plenty of opportunities to be your own boss or work in the industry.

Approximately 26 percent of graduates are self-employed, either freelancing for a variety of firms or leaving the industry to create their own businesses. In the world of advertising and design, many people choose to work from the comfort of their own home. (Source O*NET Self-employed stats)

• Freelance
Advertising designers can freelance from the comfort of their home in Texas while working for a company in another part of the nation. In today’s job climate, many companies hire freelancers to fill the job gaps of smaller staffs. If you like to be your own boss, this is one of the best fields to work in.

• Corporate
Prefer steady work in an office setting? Many opportunities lie within various types of advertising firms or agencies.

• Self-Employed
After gaining experience and exposure to the industry, many advertising designers leave their corporate agencies to start successful firms of their own. You could be one of them!

Steve Utley, Dallas
“I considered several schools for pursuing a degree in commercial art and advertising. I decided to attend TSTC based upon its solid reputation. TSTC provided me with the hands-on education and training I need to refine and hone my skills as a graphic designer. I found that their curriculum was both challenging and rewarding. The classroom student-to-teacher ratio was low, which enabled each teacher to spend more time with every student to help them one-on-one to be their best. As a graduate of TSTC, my portfolio of work stood out from the others I competed with for positions when looking for employment. I was hired two weeks after my graduation and then started my own communications firm four years later. I attribute much of my success — having been in business for myself for over 20 years and being published and awarded hundreds of times — to the solid foundation that TSTC gave me.”
