Alternative Fuel Vehicles
In 2012, the Automotive Department at TSTC Waco was awarded funds by the National Science Foundation to establish a new Advanced Technical Certificate program in Alternative Fuel Vehicles.
The new certificate program will consist of three courses to be taken in addition to the regular automotive associate degree curriculum. The new courses will be in hybrid cars, diesel cars and alternative-fuel cars (CNG/propane).
Introductory curriculum elements in alternative fuel vehicles will also be integrated into current AAS courses.
Partner institutions for the project are TSTC Harlingen and Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kan. The Automotive Program Chair, Mike Huneke, is the principal investigator (project director).
The National Science Foundation awarded a total of $254,777 for the project. The funds are being used to develop the new courses and acquire training equipment.
