Building Construction Science Technology
Thank you for inquiring about Building Construction Science Technology (BCT) at Texas State Technical College. Building Construction offers a five semester associate of applied science degree plan, as well as certificates in Building Construction Craftsman, Electrical Construction, Plumbing & Pipe Engineering and Residential Energy Efficiency Specialist.
Students in the BCT program can get crucial hands-on experience using the latest tools in the industry, backed by a knowledgeable staff and advisors in key positions within the industry. Coursework in the associate degree program includes blueprint reading and sketching, OSHA regulations, floor and wall systems, concrete, exterior and interior finishes, roof systems, masonry and more. Labs are conducted both on campus and off for plenty of practice in the field.
The Building Construction Craftsman certificate covers the important basics of building construction craftsmanship, including roof, floor and exterior finish systems, as well as OSHA regulations, communicating with trades, and other important courses. The Electrical Construction certificate program offers specific coursework in residential and commercial wiring systems. The program also provides training opportunities to aid individuals interested in earning licenses specific to the electrical field.
The Plumbing & Pipe Engineering Certificate progresses from basic to advanced coursework in plumbing, piping, construction, fabrication, rigging, welding and more.
In the Residential Energy Efficiency Specialist certificate program, you learn basic construction knowledge, how building components can fail, and how to evaluate and remediate that failure.
