Thank you for your interest in the High Performance Computing (HPC) program at Texas State Technical College. The HPC program is one of only two in the nation that awards an associate degree in High Performance Computing!

Aristotle once said, “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”  This is certainly true of the world of computing. The faculty in the HPC department designed the curriculum to provide you with real-world, marketable skills by incorporating a heavy focus of hands-on and project-based learning. We work closely with industry professionals and vendors to ensure you have the skills you need to succeed! Our program teaches you skills such as server maintenance, cloud computing and cloud storage, virtualization, clustering, network storage, hosting, Big Data analytics, high-speed networking, troubleshooting skills, and data center cooling and powering techniques.

However, HPC does not stop there! The other rapidly emerging facet of the data center is the world of supercomputing! With the enormous amount of data available in the world, no longer is supercomputing utilized strictly for simulation and research. It is now essential for data centers that require large computational bandwidth and analytics. Having a strong foundation in data center skills, coupled with the experience of building, maintaining, and programming supercomputers and clusters affords you a highly visible and marketable resume!

In the HPC program, you will be exposed to the heavy hitters of the industry, including Dell, HP, IBM, EMC, NetApp, Brocade, Mellanox and CRAY. As a student, you will also be given access to our CRAY CX-1 (with accompanying GPU cluster). With this hardware, you will learn how to use CUDA and perform GPU computation!

We invite you to come by for a tour of our student-run/maintained data center located in the John B. Connally (JBC) Technology Center at TSTC Waco!  We are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday except during school holidays. Feel free to look through the TSTC website and our department’s information. If you wish to speak with one of the faculty members of the HPC program, please call (254) 867-4831.
