Community Policing

The TSTC Waco Police Department is faced with a unique set of challenges for servicing its community. The TSTC Waco campus consists of more than 800 family homes as well as single-student dorms and apartments. The TSTC Waco Police Department has to serve both a college community and what has become an international airport of sorts. TSTC sees frequent visits from United States President, George W. Bush. During the President's visits to Crawford, as well as foreign heads of state. The TSTC Waco Police Department is charged with securing the TSTC Waco Airport and college at all times. The TSTC Waco Police Department meets the challenges through community policing.

Community policing is only accomplished through a partnership between neighborhood residents and the police officers. Combining their efforts and the resources helps reduce crime by developing strong, self-sufficient communities that create an atmosphere in which serious crime will not flourish. It gives residents a chance to be part of the policing process.

Law enforcement has long recognized the need for cooperation with the community it serves. Officers speak to neighborhood groups, participate in business and civic events, consult with social agencies and take part in education programs for school children. Foot, bike and horse patrols bring police closer to the community.
